Why is it that we are constantly putting off the things we want to do most? I can’t work out today because I have to take the kids to practice. I can’t read this book because the dishes have to be done. It’s true, life might be busy and many of us seemingly don’t have the free time, but the necessary stuff seems to get done. We keep kicking the can down the road, however on the things truly make us feel alive.
In reality it isn’t that we don’t have the time to do the things we want, it is simply that we don’t have a structure in place to make sure they get done. We make to do lists at work and fill our calendars with meetings but are we taking the time to make that structure for our personal lives as well?
We Can Schedule Our Hobbies and Our Time With Others
In my case I have a painting practice that keeps me grounded, I love to garden, and read and watch and play sports. I can’t do all of those things every day but I can make sure I’m keeping in touch with them regularly. One way I do this is through the use of an activity log .
Hobbies aren’t the only thing we should schedule. Time with loved ones and to nurture the relationships we value most can also be done in this way.
Do Something This Week For YOU That You Have Been Putting Off
This weeks challenge is to take something that you have been wanting to do but have put it on the back burner. Schedule the activity and make it non-negotiable that it happens. Trust me, everything else will still get done. Once you do it once, make sure to schedule the second time on your calendar. Now you are starting to build a habit and its likely you will do it a third time.
